IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear Friends,
The
recent wave of fierce wildfires ravaged Greece and, in particular, the
regions of Peloponnese and Evia. As you are aware, the death toll was
high and damage to property and natural resources unprecedented. The
Government has put the country in a state of emergency and concentrates
all its efforts in the relief of those who have suffered and in
rebuilding the areas affected.
This tragedy alerted the
international public opinion and mobilized Greeks abroad. While
expressing our gratitude for the interest and concern shown by the U.S.
government, institutions and the people, I urge everyone to consider
supporting financially the reconstruction effort.
For this
purpose, a special account for the relief of fire victims has been
opened, with the Bank of Greece. Any financial contribution, in any
currency, can be deposited directly to this account. The details of
