Greeks win Best Picture Golden Globes & Oscar

Director/writer Alexander Payne (Papadopoulos in Omaha, Nebraska) won the 2012 Best Picture Golden Globe (Drama) and the Academy Award (Adapted Screenplay) for "The Decendants" starring George Clooney (who won the best actor Globe for the movie).  Congratulations from CelebrateGreece.com and the Greek community at large.  Bravo Alexander!

The two-time Oscar winning adapttive screenwriter, and director, of Sideways (2004) and The Descendants (2012) gave CelebrateGreece.com an interview in the past where we discussed everything from Greeks in the movie business to his favorite Greek dish, food that is!  Alexander Payne's humor and humanity comes out in this funny interview with CelebrateGreece.com's Cynthia Daddona (also of RomancingTheTable.com).  Payne's unique talent of portraying tragedy juxtaposed with comedy on movie screens has earned him accolades throughout Hollywood.  Human triumphs and pitfalls is his specialty as portrayed in his movies Sideways, About Schmidt, and now "The Decendants".  "The Decendants" co-star, Beau Bridges (brother to Jeff Bridges), was interviewed by CelebrateGreece.com in 2009 where we talked about Greek food.

In addition, Frenchman (of Greek descent) writer/director Michel Hazanavicius won Best Picture Golden Globe (Comedy/Musical) for The Artist & the Best Director and Best Picture Oscars for The Artist.  CelebrateGreece.com's Cynthia Daddona covered Michel's recent appearance in the Santa Barbara International Film Festival along with the hilarious antics of the stars of The Artist, Berenice Bejo (Michel's wife) and Jean Dujardin (Best Actor Oscar winner).
